Cloud Computing

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is a single web-based application that hosts all programmes that users need to carry out their job. An example of this is web based email. If you are using Gmail, hotmail or Yahoo! for instance you are already using a form of cloud computing. As with email, the cloud applications are accessed remotely over the internet. Local computers no longer have to do the heavy lifting which negates the need for expensive hardware as the network of computers that make up the cloud handles it instead. Converting your business to cloud computing is simple. It is a one off payment for the set up and thereafter a monthly fixed service fee is payable.

Benefits of cloud computing:

  • Cloud technology is paid incrementally, saving organizations money
  • Reduced expenditure on hardware and software
  • Increased data storage than on private computer systems
  • Software and hardware updates are no longer needed
  • Employees can access information remotely from anywhere, other than at their desk
  • Access to a huge range of applications without having to download or install anything
  • Applications can be accessed from any computer, anywhere in the world
  • Companies can share resources in one place
  • Gives greater scalability
